About Us

Our Story

G. Qulture was founded by Lauren and Jessie Garner. We live in Takoma Park, MD with our adventurous toddler, two mischievous cats, and an adorably anxious dog.

While creating our first home together, we found it challenging to access fine art pieces that were unapologetically Black, Queer, and intersectional. In other words, we were broke and unfulfilled by the status quo. Driven by our shared desire to design an affirming and safe home space, we collaborated to create intentional art that embraced fluidity and the non-binary beauty in the world. Eight years later, we decided to bring our art to the internet in the form of curated capsules—antidotes for a cultural structure that is neither affirming nor safe for those who deviate from strictly enforced norms of race, gender, sexuality, ability, and class.

All of our designs are centered around the grounding idea of re-creating and re-queering our lives for ourselves. By prioritizing our healing, unlearning, and self-care we are in turn healing our soil & roots (both physically and metaphorically).

We hope our pieces and trinkets of joy will fill your space and serve as a reminder for you to continue your own journey of self-love, community care, and the arduous process of unlearning and rejecting the ways in which society asks us to shrink or assimilate ourselves.

G. Qulture is proud to operate as a Black & Queer owned company.
